Theron's Puppy Love

Published in Us Weekly, December 10, 2001

CHARLIZE THERON LEFT HER boyfriend, Irish actor Stuart Townsend, at home and instead brought her cocker spaniel, Denver, to a benefit for the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary on November 15. Theron stuck close to her pet and made it clear that he was not one of the five pooches up for adoption that evening. "Denver has a home," she said. About 800 guests — including David Crosby, Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher, and The West Wing's Allison Janney — filed into the Century Club in Century City, California, for the event, but the real stars of the evening were the rescued pooches, who walked the red carpet and got their pictures taken with actor Lou Diamond Phillips and party cohost Noah Wyle. In the end, all five dogs found good homes and $40,000 was raised for the Kanab, Utah, facility's Los Angeles programs.
